Fine Arts

Fine Arts encompasses subjects such as dancing, design, sculpture, architecture, pottery, interior design, painting, drama and music. Fine Arts essentially is an art form, which includes objects mainly created for concept or aesthetic value rather than utility.

This subject include the visual art and performing art forms,such as painting,sculpture,collage,decollage,film etc. 

Presently, conventional art forms are being converted into profitable sectors for commercial use. Today, opportunities are increasing at a rapid rate in the fine arts sector. Presently, youth in India is opting for this field to obtain high remuneration, popularity and prestige.

Career options in the field of Fine Arts are as follows:

 

  • Fine artist - expresses ideas in a visual format such as paintings, installations, sculptures or drawings. Some fine artists also work in or with other media such as film. Work may be commissioned by clients or initiated by the artist.
  • Community arts worker - works on artistic projects in a specific location with designated groups such as ethnic minorities or young people. The aim is to channel energy and creativity, often in those people for whom there are few other cultural or social outlets.
  • Printmaker - designs and produces prints by transposing the original image onto different surfaces and materials such as woodcuts, lithographs, silk screens. This is painstaking work, often using traditional rather than electronic processes.
  • Secondary school teacher - teaches art, craft, design and technology to students aged 11-18. Works within the National Curriculum and towards examinations such as GCSE and A-level. Encourages pupils to interpret creative themes, use a variety of equipment and explore ways of harnessing their imagination and expanding practical skills.
  • Further education lecturer - teaches art to over 16s, either in a formal college setting, preparing students for academic and vocational exams or in adult education, where students may be older and taking leisure courses. The core of this role is similar to that described in Secondary school teacher.
  • Higher education lecturer - teaches fine art to those over 18 in universities or similar institutions. Through lectures, workshops and tutorials, prepares students for high-level qualifications. Might specialise in a particular sub-discipline. The role is academic as well as practical and may involve supervision of Masters and PhD candidates.
  • Museum/gallery curator - acquires, tends, houses and interprets art works and artefacts for short-term exhibitions or for standing collections. The current emphasis of the job is on facilitating wider public access and developing themes to encourage this.

Remuneration of fine arts professionals may vary depending on the nature of the jobs. Those who are working in media and publishing houses, advertising agencies and textile industries can get lucrative pay packages of Rs 12,000 to Rs 25,000 per months. Fine arts professionals working in theatre, drama and production houses can get salary of Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 per month. Those in teaching also have good earnings. Besides Fine Artists working independently have varies income depending upon their skill and ability of innovation.

Fine artists create original pieces of art work, through a variety of mediums. They often specialise in a particular type of art which may be categorised in the following ways:

  • two-dimensional work (drawing, painting, collage);
  • three-dimensional work (sculpture, installation);
  • four-dimensional work (moving images, performance).

Many artists also specialise in a subject and may concentrate on areas such as landscapes, portraits or abstract.

Fine artists can be commissioned to produce a piece of work or they can create their own pieces for sale at a later date. They may also run art classes or be part of community art projects.

For Bachelor Degree Courses: 

The eligibility required for Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts is a higher seconday (10+2) pass. Usually, the course duration for this course is 3-4 years in most of the institutes and universities. Foundation and specialization course are taught in the first and remaining years respectively.

For Master Degree Courses:

Candidates seeking admission for post-graduate degee must complete their graduation in fine arts. The course duration is of 2 years that includes 1exam every year.
